Therapeutic After School Admissions Process

Many parents and caregivers have found our After School program extremely helpful for their child’s growth and success.

Program Demographics

The therapeutic after-school program will operate six hours daily, Monday through Friday. Youth enrolled in the program may attend from one to five days per week. The hours of attendance for participants will vary depending on the youth's developmental needs and identified problems and treatment goals. The hours of the youth's attendance may decrease as the youth progresses toward achievement of his/her individualized goals or prepares for discharge and transition to follow-up services. Transportation may be provided to and from the facility. However, parents/guardians will be encouraged to provide transportation for the youth for the purpose of promoting the parents‘/guardians’ and youth's communication and relationship.

Population Served and Admission Criteria

This program will serve children and adolescents, ages five to fourteen years, who exhibit a medical necessity for structured treatment. Older children with developmental ' disabilities may be served, when appropriate. The program serves youth who manifest behavioral, social or emotional problems at home, in the community or in the school. These youth need a supportive, structured milieu and treatment. The typical child or adolescent will demonstrate at least one of the following admission criteria

  1. Child psychiatric disorder
  2. Impaired reality testing or logical thinking
  3. Behavioral health problems are manifested at home, school or in the community.
  4. At risk of deterioration of condition with less intensive intervention
  5. Treatment in a less structured environment is unlikely to succeed due to absence or collapse of the support provided by the school or home.

Parents, schools, MH/MR, Children and Youth Services and other CASSP system providers or agencies may refer the youth to this program.

Exclusionary Criteria

The program is unable to serve youth with the following difficulties:

  • Persistent danger of hurting self and others
  • Active use or dependence on alcohol or drugs
  • Youth unable to utilize bathroom facilities independently
  • Youth with serious medical conditions may be excluded pending the availability of
  • Individual support for that youth during program attendance

Youth demonstrating the following criteria may also require additional evaluation or alternative recommendations:

  • Psychiatric problems requiring 1:1 supervision to maintain in the program
  • Moderate to severe mental retardation
  • Gross impairment in the ability to communicate
