Will My Child Have a Substitute TSS if Needed?

To provide an alternative service to the client and school in the event the assigned TSS is unavailable, such as sick, on vacation, or unable to work, another TSS, when available will provide the service in the school with the school’s approval.

How Does the Substitute Program Work?

When a staffer has scheduled or unscheduled time off, the following steps are taken:

  • Staff notifies the BHRS’ secretary that he/she is unavailable to work that day;
  • Secretary checks to see if there are other staff available to work;
  • Secretary checks to see if school wants coverage for the client;
  • If the school requests coverage and staff is available, the secretary contacts the staff with client’s name and school.

Will a Substitute Always be Available?

No, however, there are many times when TSS are available because their assigned client is not available that day.

Will the Substitute Know How to Work with My Child?

The substitute TSS may or may not know this client, however, TSS are trained to work with children with behavioral and emotional problems. In order to assist the substitute TSS in being successful with the client, a folder with a copy of the client's treatment plan, daily schedule, and helpful suggestions and interventions will be placed at the school. The goal for the substitute TSS is to provide the extra support needed in order for the client to function appropriately in the classroom.
