TMS Therapy- Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Advanced Treatment for Depression

While the exact cause of depression is not known, the leading scientific theory is that it is caused by an imbalance of the brain's neurotransmitters, which are chemical messengers that send signals between brain cells.

TMS therapy uses an FDA-cleared device to deliver a targeted pulsed magnetic field, similar to what is used in an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) machine. This magnetic field stimulates areas of the brain that are underactive in people with depression. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is not electroconvulsive therapy.

Where Can I Get TMS Therapy Near Me?

TMS therapy at WellSpan Philhaven is provided by licensed, certified medical professionals in an office setting. TMS therapy is currently offered at our Mt. TMS makes long-term remission possible. Many people's depression symptoms significantly improve or go away after four to six weeks of treatment with TMS.

During treatment:

  • The coil delivers focused magnetic stimulation directly to the target areas of the brain.

After treatment:
