What is intensive outpatient care (IOC)?

The adult day hospital and intensive outpatient program offers a safe haven for adults 18 and older struggling with severe mental health challenges and emotional distress.

We delve into past experiences and present behaviors to help you:

  • gain valuable insights into your behavior
  • develop healthier coping mechanisms
  • cultivate stronger relationships

Our program emphasizes family involvement and discharge planning, providing a holistic approach to recovery. Our goal is to help you pave the way to a healthier life.

Who is a candidate?

To be eligible for IOP or the adult day hospital program, you must:

  • be 18 years of age or older
  • have a diagnosed mental health condition, such as a mood disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, suicidality or an adjustment disorder
  • be able to comprehend the program's purpose
  • actively participate in planning and implementing your treatment plan
  • have adequate transportation to support consistent program attendance

It's important to note that the program is not suitable for you if:

  • you have a primary diagnosis of a substance use disorder
  • your primary treatment need is substance-related
  • you have a physical or developmental disorders that would prevent your participation and comprehension of program activities

What to expect in intensive outpatient care (IOC)

Referrals to our programs can be made by contacting our Access Center at 1-800-932-0359. You must meet all the eligibility requirements listed above.

Before treatment

We’ll work with you to choose the program that will best meet your needs:

  • Day hospital track: up to six hours daily, Monday through Friday
  • IOC track: three to six hours daily, three to five days each week, Monday through Friday
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) track: participation in groups using only the DBT curriculum

During treatment

  • Family members and significant others are actively involved in the treatment process.
  • You'll engage in individual therapy, group therapy, psychiatric medication evaluation and treatment.
  • Psycho-education sessions focus on symptom management, coping skills development and problem-solving techniques.
  • Psychopharmacological consultations may be provided as needed.
  • Regular individual meetings are held to review treatment progress.

After treatment

Discharge planning is an integral part of the program, providing a smooth transition and access to appropriate aftercare programs.
